What is Ear Candling?
Ear Candling is a form of alternative therapy in which the tapered end of an ear candle is placed in a person’s ear while the other end of the candle is lit, allowing earwax and other impurities to be drawn out of the ear canal by a partial vacuum created by the candle flame.
What can Ear Candling treat?
- earwax buildup
- swimmer’s ear or ear infections
- hearing problems
- sinus infections or other sinus conditions
- symptoms of a cold or the flu
- sore throat
Ear candling has been performed all over the world for many centuries. It is an all-natural process used to soothe the ears, and many users report relief from their pain/itching, from infections and other conditions. Ear Candling is a safe, simple, non-invasive natural and relaxing cleansing method. The session employs long hollow ear candles to extract earwax and other debris from the ear canal. The warmth from the lighted candle is very soothing to the ear canal and may result in a very relaxed state during and following the treatment. An ear candling session lasts up to one hour, during which one or two ear candles may be burned for each ear.
You should not choose to have an ear candling treatment if you have had recent surgery to the ear, if the eardrum has ruptured from increased pressure within the middle ear, cysts in the ears, mastoiditis (an infection of the mastoid process, the bone behind the ears) ‘tubes’ in the ears, artificial eardrum or cochlear implants. If you are not sure if ear candling is safe for you and your specific symptoms, seek out an Otolaryngologist to receive a proper diagnosis.
